Edo: Akpata Asks Obaseki To Swear In Remaining Three Judges

opera.com 5 days ago

Olumide Akpata, a former Nigerian Bar Association president and the Labour Party's candidate for the upcoming Edo Governorship Election, has reiterated his call for Governor Godwin Obaseki to swear in the three judges recommended by the National Judicial Council for the state judiciary.

According to a report by Channels Television, Akpata has pointed out that despite the recommendation being made a year ago, Obaseki has only sworn in five out of the eight proposed judges.

Akpata has criticized Obaseki for what he views as selective action and stressed the importance of swearing in all the recommended judges.

He believes that this act would demonstrate the governor's dedication to democratic values and adherence to the rule of law.

Despite having discussions with Obaseki and being involved in the National Judicial Council when the issue initially arose, Akpata's efforts have not led to compliance from the governor, leading him to persist in his advocacy on this matter.
