Nigerian Army Promotes First Female Officer Trained In UK Military Academy

Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, has approved Second Lieutenant Princess Oluchukwu Owowo's promotion to the substantive rank of Lieutenant (Lt) in the Nigerian Army.

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Defense Academy issued a statement on X.

Speaking at the decoration ceremony held today, June 26, 2024, at the Nigerian Defence Academy Officer's Mess and Golf Club, NDA Commandant Major General JO Ochai praised Lt. Owowoh's track record of excellence as a cadet, which earned her the rare privilege of becoming the first female Nigerian to be trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, as well as her promotion to the new rank," the statement said.

The celebration was attended by senior military leaders, academic and non-academic professionals, as well as family members, according to the statement. The 24-year-old Owowoh was among the 135 officer cadets who graduated during RMAS' sovereign's parade in London on April 12.
