The Senate committee investigating the N30tn Ways and Means loans obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria under the leadership of Godwin Emefiele by the Federal Government plans to request more time for the inquiry according to PREMIUM TIMES.

During the panel's inauguration on March 11, 2024 Senate President GodsWill Akpabio instructed the panel to investigate the loans within six weeks.

The committee was tasked with investigating the over-N1tn Anchor Borrowers’ Programme of the CBN during the previous administration and was instructed to thoroughly examine every detail.

The committee, headed by Senator Isah Jibrin (APC, Kogi East) revealed that it had found approximately 13 financial irregularities believed to have occurred during the loan acquisition.

The Senate announced it would call upon CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso and certain directors of the apex bank specifically those who were involved with Emefiele.

The committee mentioned they had obtained certain documents to help with the investigation and announced that certain government officials linked to the loan would be called in for questioning.

Nevertheless, following two or three meetings, the Senate recessed and concluded plenary.

Our correspondent's investigation revealed that the six-week deadline ended on April 26, 2024.

In reaction to missing the deadline, Jibrin the chairman of the panel told newsmen that the panel would request more time when the Senate returns.

Previously mentioned was the scheduled resumption of the National Assembly on Tuesday, April 30 which was rescheduled from April 23.
