In a strategic move, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has dissolved its elected executive committees across the five southeastern states of Nigeria.

The decision, announced by MACBAN's National Deputy Director-General, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, follows the expiration of tenures for all state executive committees nationwide on February 27, 2024.

During a meeting held in Enugu over the weekend, Siddiki disclosed that the national executive, led by President Baba Othman Ngelzarma, dissolved these committees and appointed interim caretaker committees to oversee operations until new elections are conducted.

According to Vanguard, Siddiki himself was appointed as the interim head for Anambra State.

MACBAN, representing pastoralists involved in legitimate cattle breeding and sales activities across Nigeria, operates democratically with elections held every four years to elect leadership.

The newly appointed caretaker committees for the southeastern states include prominent figures like Hassan Buba and Haruna Mohammed for Abia State, and Ardo Baushe and Inusa for Ebonyi State.

Siddiki emphasized MACBAN's commitment to peaceful coexistence with host communities and expressed gratitude to government and security agencies for their support.

He urged members to avoid actions that could threaten collective security while reaffirming solidarity in combating threats.
