Nigerian Troops Neutralize 715 Terrorists and Rescue 465 Hostages in April Operations

In a significant victory against terrorism, Nigerian troops have reported the neutralization of over 715 terrorists and the rescue of 465 kidnapped hostages during operations carried out in April. The Defence Headquarters disclosed these achievements during a bi-weekly media briefing in Abuja, emphasizing the coordinated efforts of ground and air forces in combating terrorist groups across the country.

Maj-Gen Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operation, highlighted the relentless pursuit of terrorist elements, stressing the imperative of safeguarding citizens from further harm. The operations conducted in April included ambushes, raids, and fighting patrols, with aerial assets playing a crucial role in identifying and targeting terrorist leaders and their bases.

The synchronised strikes between ground and air forces yielded significant results, with 715 terrorists neutralized, 146 persons arrested, and 465 kidnapped hostages rescued. Additionally, troops recovered 937 assorted weapons and 23,034 ammunition rounds, thwarting oil theft estimated at over N2 billion.

Key engagements during the month included the neutralization of senior terrorist commanders and the destruction of terrorist enclaves in various regions. Notable among these were the airstrikes on April 13, which eliminated three senior terrorist commanders at Kolleram Village along Lake Chad. Operations on April 15 and 19 saw the destruction of terrorist enclaves belonging to prominent commanders in Katsina State.

In the North-East, Operation Hadin Kai troops conducted successful missions in areas such as the Sambisa Forest and the Timbuktu Triangle, resulting in the elimination of 248 terrorists, the arrest of 422 individuals, and the rescue of 163 kidnapped hostages. Furthermore, 714 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists, along with their families, surrendered to authorities, leading to the recovery of significant quantities of arms and ammunition.

The latest achievements underscore the Nigerian military's unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of the populace. With coordinated efforts and relentless operations, the military continues to make significant strides in the fight against insurgency and terrorism in Nigeria.
