South-East Govs Ask FG To Release Nnamdi Kanu

The South-East Governors Forum has agreed to meet with President Bola Tinubu and engage with the Nigerian government to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

This decision was contained in a communiqué issued after a six-hour meeting at the Enugu State Government House on Tuesday.

All five governors from the region - Peter Mbah (Enugu), Alex Otti (Abia), Prof Charles Soludo (Anambra), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), and Senator Hope Uzodimma (Imo) - attended the meeting and signed the five-point communiqué.

The forum also resolved to implement the report of the South East Security and Economic Summit held in Owerri on September 28, 2023, with actionable plans.

Dangote Faults CBN’s Interest Rate

Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has criticised the hike of interest rate to almost 30 per cent by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Speaking at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja, during the opening session of a three-day summit organised by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), on Tuesday, he said with the present interest rate regime, it will be difficult to create jobs.

He added that it would also be tough for the manufacturing industry to grow and compete favorably.

Dangote, who also called for new policies that will protect domestic industries, said, “Nobody can create jobs with an interest rate of 30%. No growth will happen.”

The 13th prosecution witness, Abubakar Madaki, in the ongoing trial of a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has told Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos how a former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki( retd.) gave the defendant the sum of N1.2bn cash to disguise the source of the fund.

The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had, on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, re-arraigned Fayose and Spotless Investment Limited on an 11-count charge bordering on money laundering and stealing to the tune of N6.9billion.

The defendants were first arraigned on October 22, 2018 before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun.

Abductors Of Rarara’s Mother Demand ‘N900m Ransom’

Abductors Hajiya Hauwa’u Adamu mother of the famous Hausa musician, Dauda Adamu popularly known as Rarara, have reportedly demanded a ransom of N900m for her release.

A source close to the family in Kahutu, who craved anonymity, hinted Daily Trust that the abductors of the elderly woman called the family and initially demanded N1bn ransom.

The source said: “They called the family with a phone of a woman the bandits collected when they came to pick up Hajiya. They demanded N1bn but after a brief discussion with a member of the family, they reduced the amount to N900m.

“At first, they demanded to seal the deal with Rarara himself because he felt sick following the abduction of his mother. They agreed to strike the deal with a member of the family. They confirmed to the family that Hajiya is in good condition and that she would be released as soon as the money is paid.
