Dangote Rejects CBN's Interest Rate, Asks FG To Protect Existing Businesses

Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has criticised the hike of interest rate to almost 30 per cent by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Speaking at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja, during the opening session of a three-day summit organised by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), on Tuesday, he said with the present interest rate regime, it will be difficult to create jobs.

He added that it would also be tough for the manufacturing industry to grow and compete favorably.

Court Strikes Out Suit Against Olanipekun, NBA On Body Of Benchers Dispute

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has struck out a suit filed by Abuja-based lawyer Chidinma Udebuani, seeking to remove former Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN, from office.

Justice Anthony Ebong, who struck out the suit, held that the issue in dispute had already been overtaken by events, as Olanipekun had completed his term.

He also noted that the plaintiff and her counsel had abandoned the case.


Bill To Create Another South-East State Emerges In Reps

A bill to create Etiti State has been introduced on the floor of the House of Representatives and passed for first reading.

The bill, sponsored by Amobi Ogah (LP, Abia), Miriam Onuoha (APC, Imo), Kama Nkemkama (LP, Ebonyi), Chinwe Nnabuife (YPP, Anambra), and Anayo Onwuegbu (LP, Enugu), was introduced on Tuesday during plenary.

The constitution alteration bill seeks to carve out a new state from the five South-east states of Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Imo.


Presidential Amnesty Programme, NDRBDA To Partner On Food Security

The Presidential Amnesty Programm, PAP, and the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, NDRBDA, have agreed to partner on a food security project aimed at boosting massive agricultural activities to tackle food scarcity in the region.

The food security project was initiated by NDRBDA.

The two federal agencies reached the understanding when the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the NDRBDA, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, visited the PAP Administrator, Dr Dennis Otuaro, in his office in Abuja on Monday.
