According to the report from the Vanguard, the Director of Operations, Edo North of the Asue/Ogie Campaign Management Council, Hon Jimoh Ijegbai referenced President Tinubu's attendance at the inauguration of South Africa's president, highlighting the transparent electoral processes in that country which minimize the need for legal challenges.

He encouraged Tinubu to learn from this example and prioritize transparency in Nigerian elections to reduce acrimony and disputes.

Given Tinubu's strong democratic credentials, he argued that it would be inconsistent for him to seek control over Edo State through forceful means rather than democratic processes.

He said, "President Tinubu just came from the inauguration of the South African president. In South Africa, they do elections and you don’t see anybody going to the tribunal or filing cases because the processes are transparent and the President should learn from that and be able to say look, we want to reduce the acrimony that happens in conducting elections. With the democratic credentials he parades, he cannot turn around and say we must take Edo by force."
