The Senate approved the bill to establish the North Central Development Commission on Thursday, following its third reading. This bill was introduced by Senator Abba Moro of Benue South, who also serves as the Senate Minority Leader, along with other senators from the North Central region.

According to report from punch, initially presented in the 9th Senate by Moro, the bill successfully passed the first and second readings on October 5, 2023, and February 21, 2024. Despite its earlier progress, it did not receive presidential assent before the end of the 9th Senate.

The current passage of the bill was achieved after the Senate Committee on Special Duties presented their report, which was adopted during the plenary session.

Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, presiding over the session, praised Moro and all contributors for their efforts in advancing the bill. He expressed hope that President Bola Tinubu would sign the bill into law, aiming for the development of North Central Nigeria, which includes Kogi, Niger, Benue, Kwara, Plateau, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
