The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, on Saturday, July 6, 2024, disclosed that despite warning to Nigerians to avoid deadly route to Libya, some of the citizens are still going to the North African country.

Dabiri-Erewa disclosed this on he X handle while responding to the post by a lady who expressed worries over the way some Nigerians, especially ladies, were being allegedly humiliated by the police in Libya.

The lady, whose X handle is @enobong, posted her concern in a post and below is the screenshot of her post:

Responding to the post however, Dabiri-Erewa disclosed that over 10,000 Nigerians had been brought back from Libya, adding that despite the warning by the government that the citizens should avoid the deadly route to Libya, many people still embark on the journey through the desert.

She wrote: "We gave a strong warning for Nigerians to avoid Libya and we shared the dreadful sights we saw in those deadly cells. Unfortunately, some are still going. But the key thing is to advise Nigerians to avoid that route. It’s a deadly journey."

Due to the terrible economic situation in the country, some Nigerians have taken the risk of embarking on the dreadful journey to Libya through the desert with the hope of getting to Europe.

Some of them, especially ladies, eventually ended up in the North African country, where they are subjected to humiliating conditions, including brutality, by the police in the country.
