Former Imo State governor, Emeka Ihedioha, recently shed light on his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), attributing it to a growing dissatisfaction among his supporters and a perceived disconnect between the party's leadership and the aspirations of the people. In an interview on Arise News Channel's 'PrimeTime', Ihedioha framed the exodus of PDP members from the Imo State chapter as a vote of confidence in his leadership, emphasizing his commitment to leading a change and rebuilding Imo State.

Highlighting the reasons behind his decision, Ihedioha pointed to unresolved internal issues within the PDP and a reluctance among party operators to address them. He lamented the party's declining reputation, noting that it had ceased to be perceived as a viable option for governing at both the national and state levels.

He emphasized the desire of his followership for change and the need to rebuild Imo State. According to Ihedioha, the lack of responsiveness to feedback and the failure to course-correct had led to a decline in electoral performance, evident in the party's inability to secure victories in key contests.

According to LEADERSHIP News reports, Ihedioha said, Nigerians no longer perceive the PDP as a party that could take over government at the national or state levels, stressing that operators of the party w"ere recalcitrant and averse to reasoning with opinions that will put the party back on track".

Pointing to the electoral performance in Imo State, Ihedioha noted the decline of the PDP, which failed to win a single Local Government Area in the last governorship election. He contrasted this with his previous success in leading the party to victory, securing multiple seats in the House of Assembly, and winning the governorship election with a significant margin.
