Obi Knocks 2024 Budget, Calls For Focus On Citizens’ Welfare

The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has vowed to remain persistent in expressing his deep concerns about the 2024 budget, citing its critical importance to the lives of citizens, especially the poor.

In a statement via X on Tuesday, Obi argued that the budget’s numerous negatives have far-reaching implications for the nation’s development and the well-being of its citizens.

Katsina Gets New HoS, Bawale

Falalu Bawale has been appointed as the new Head of Service (HoS) of Katsina State by Governor Umaru Radda, replacing Alhaji Usman Isyaku. Bawale, formerly the permanent secretary in the office of the HoS, takes on this new role, while Isyaku is appointed as the special adviser for public sector administration reforms. Governor Radda congratulated Bawale on his appointment and thanked Isyaku for his service.

Kogi Guber: INEC Tenders Documents Against SDP, Ajaka’s Petition

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has tendered electoral documents against the petition filed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its gubernatorial candidate, Murtala Ajaka, challenging the election victory of Governor Usman Ododo.

INEC’s counsel, Uchenna Njoku, who held the brief of Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN) tendered the documents before the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja.

However, the SDP and its governorship candidate in the poll are challenging the declaration of Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the poll.

In the petition, INEC, Ododo and APC are listed as 1st to 3rd respondents respectively.

Some of the documents tendered yesterday by the commission’s lawyer before the three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Ado Birnin-Kudu, include INEC Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of the Election; INEC Manuals for Electoral Officers and INEC Form EC8C.

Others include INEC Form EC8B; INEC Form EC8E; list of accredited agents for SDP; list of accredited ward agents; receipts of payment for forms, among others.

Benue Revenue Board No Longer For Political Patronage – Chairman

The acting chairman Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), Emmanuel Agema, has decried the activities of illegal tax collectors in the state, even as he lamented that most of these criminals are backed by very prominent individuals, saying “under my watch, the era of using the board to patronise politicians is over.”

This is even as Agena informed that three suspected criminals in Aliade, Gwer-East local government area of the state have also been arrested for intercepting a truck loaded with palliatives from Adamawa to deliver in Anambra State.

The acting BIRS chairman who disclosed this during an interface with journalists in Makurdi also said, 35 persons who have engaged in illegal tax collection across the state have been arrested and arraigned before the court of competent jurisdiction since assumption of office.
