According to Sahara reporters, Lanto Community in the Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, is experiencing severe flooding that has left over 10,000 residents stranded and caused significant property damage, according to reports from SaharaReporters. Heavy downpours have resulted in the submerging of the only access road leading to the community, disrupting daily life and leaving many struggling to cope with the consequences.

Community members have spoken out about the loss of lives and properties, with the flooding destroying assets worth millions of Naira. SaharaReporters shared videos and images provided by Monitng, a civic technology platform, showcasing the devastating extent of the floods.

Residents are calling on government officials, including the FCT Minister and FCT Senator, to take immediate action and prioritize Lanto Community in infrastructure funding and improvements. One resident, Tony, stressed the urgency of fixing the access road and improving the drainage system, emphasizing that these steps are vital for enabling residents to resume their daily lives and minimizing further damage.

Another resident, Usman, highlighted the recurring nature of the flooding issue, stating that the community loses at least three lives annually due to dangerous road conditions.
