Nyesom Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State, has been a polarising figure in Nigerian politics. His appointment as a minister has sparked significant debate, with prominent voices like Dan Nwanyanwu expressing strong opinions on the matter. Nwanyanwu, a notable political figure himself, firmly believes that "As a Minister, the President has no business listening to him." This statement underscores a broader concern about the influence and actions of Wike within the federal government.

Nwanyanwu’s critique is rooted in the perception that Wike's past actions, particularly his alleged manipulations in Rivers State, should disqualify him from having a significant voice in national matters. He stresses the importance of the President maintaining a clear distance from Wike's controversial methods, to avoid any appearance of tacit approval from the government in Abuja.

"We don't want to go with the impression that the government in Abuja, the federal government, and the President are giving tacit approval to what he is doing," Nwanyanwu stated, highlighting a crucial point of concern. The fear is that Wike's continued influence might set a dangerous precedent, undermining the credibility and authority of the President.

Furthermore, Nwanyanwu elaborated, "You have given him a job and rewarded him for the manipulation he did in Rivers. We have let it go, but he should not put fire in Rivers that will affect your office as President." This remark emphasises the potential risks associated with Wike's role, suggesting that his actions could have far-reaching consequences for the stability of the President’s administration.

In a candid address to the President, Nwanyanwu advised, "If the problem is about 2027, the person you should do business with is the man on the seat. You know it, Mr. President. You have been there for eight years, and you are the most experienced politician to become President. You should understand it more than I do." This highlights the need for strategic decision-making and careful political alliances to ensure long-term stability and success.

In summary, the debate surrounding Nyesom Wike's ministerial appointment raises important questions about political integrity and the future direction of Nigerian governance. As voices like Dan Nwanyanwu continue to challenge the status quo, the President’s decisions will undoubtedly shape the political landscape in significant ways.
