US temporary aid pier ‘just a distraction

opera.com 2 days ago

Mansour Shouman, a Palestinian activist, has warned that the situation in Gaza is deteriorating rapidly, with widespread famine in the north. He revealed that people are resorting to eating leaves to survive, and aid is being severely restricted.

Shouman, who was in Gaza until March, urged for the immediate opening of land crossings to allow thousands of trucks carrying aid to enter. Despite a temporary aid pier being established, only a limited number of trucks have been allowed into the Israeli military-controlled zone, leaving much of the aid stranded on the beach. Shouman emphasized that the focus should be on opening the land borders, rather than relying on the pier or airdropping aid, which he considers a distraction. He called for a permanent ceasefire, the opening of land borders to aid, and security for the people of Gaza.

The situation is dire, and Shouman's warnings highlight the need for urgent action to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The international community must prioritize the opening of land borders to allow aid to reach those in need, and work towards a lasting solution to the conflict.
