Bayero’s Lawyers Withdraw From Kano Emirship Tussle Case

Benue Records 4 Cholera Deaths

Four deaths from suspected cholera cases were reported in Benúe State across three local government areas: Agatu, Otukpo, and Ado. Dr. Henry Ijabo, the state Epidemiologist, confirmed the fatalities amid ongoing investigations into the cause. In 2024, 16 suspected cholera cases have been recorded in these areas, prompting advice from Ijabo to end open defecation and promote frequent hand washing to prevent further spread of the disease.

The Federal Government, via the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, announced a hike in dues and rates for mining sector operators. Minister Dele Alake stated that 286 rate regimes were increased by 50% to 100%, with immediate effect. Non-compliance will result in license revocation. The rate review aims to boost government funds and improve business ease in the sector. All stakeholders accepted the new rates, emphasizing the need for investors to support government efforts rather than burden poor Nigerians.

Ganduje’s probe: Court gives Kano Judges 48-hrs to resign appointment

A Federal High Court in Kano has ordered two judges, Justice Farouk Lawan Adamu and Justice Zuwaira Yusuf, appointed by Governor Abba Yusuf, to resign from their roles within 48 hours. The judges were appointed to lead commissions of inquiry investigating alleged misappropriation and political violence. The court's decision, prompted by a suit filed by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, criticized the appointments as undermining judicial independence and violating constitutional separation of powers. The judges were instructed to cease performing executive functions and face cessation of judicial benefits if they fail to comply.
