Angry Kenyans Gang Up Against Sakaja for Vacating in Diani While Protests Were Going on in Nairobi

A section of Kenyans online has ganged up against Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for vacating in Diani while anti-government protests were going in Nairobi.

While refuting claims of hiring goons to cause mayhem during the protests which have been taking place in Nairobi's CBD, Sakaja said that he was in the city when the unfortunate events were happening.

The Nairobi county chief said that he was in fact at the Coast vacating with members of his cabinet when goons took advantage of anti-government demos to cause havoc in the CBD.

"I saw a clip on Tuesday of alleged goons coming out of City Hall. Some were trying to to claim that I was meeting these goons to plan violence yet I was in Diani with my Cabinet doing our end of year retreat," Sakaja said.

However, some Kenyans, probably Nairobians, were not happy with Sakaja's statement, taking to social media to vent their anger.

A majority of netizens wondered why the youthful governor was retreating in Diani while demos, characterised by widespread looting and vandalism, were going on in Nairobi.

Some Kenyans questioned why Sakaja and his Cabinet had to retreat in Diani while there are so many retreat centres in Nairobi.

"Going to a retreat while the country is on a crisis?" one netizen posed.

"How can you be in retreat enjoying our tax amidst such protest?" another Kenyan questioned.

"Ata huna adabu in the middle of a crisis boldly saying was in a retreat with my cabinet Nairobians deserve better," another Kenyan said.

"Worse still, you went for a retreat when your county was under siege? All hell broke loose and you decided "oh well, tuende tukaogelee Diani"," commented another Kenyan.

"So you skipped all of the horror that occurred in your county and went straight to defending yourself against goon charges with mediocre excuses that still show wastage of tax payer money?" another X user posed.

"With all what's going on, they still have energy and audacity to go for end year party retreat?" another Kenyan wondered.
