A heavily armed team from the elite Recce squad descended upon Hamburg House on Tom Mboya Street on Tuesday in a bid to flush out a suspect alleged to have shot a police officer during the ongoing anti-government protests.
The suspect, believed to be armed, reportedly took refuge atop the building following the incident.
The identity of the alleged sniper has not yet been revealed.
As tensions flared, hundreds of youths gathered in Nairobi's central business district, chanting "Ruto must go" and clashing with police in running battles.
The heightened unrest saw most businesses in the CBD shuttered, with shop owners fearing potential looting and destruction.
