According to the report from the Punch, Former Imo State Governor and stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Emeka Ihedioha, recently announced his departure from the party, a move that has stirred reactions within the political circles of the state.

In response to Ihedioha's exit, Sir Chidi Dike, the Chairman of the PDP in Imo State, expressed his disappointment in an interview on Tuesday. Dike described Ihedioha's decision as regrettable, highlighting the significance of Ihedioha's role as one of the party's founding fathers and funders.

Dike stated, "It is unfortunate that a leader of his caliber resigned from the party. Life is like a rotating fan; when it rotates to your side, you are happy and when it turns away, you are not happy." Despite this setback, Dike emphasized that the party's morale will remain undeterred by Ihedioha's departure.

Reflecting on his resignation, Ihedioha outlined his reasons in a formal letter dated April 23, 2024. He cited a misalignment of the party's recent trajectory with his personal convictions, expressing concerns about the PDP's inability to conduct internal reforms and provide effective opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Ihedioha's resignation letter read, "Despite my attempt to offer counsel, the party is sadly no longer able to carry out internal reforms, enforce its own rules, or offer credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress. It is in the light of the foregoing that I am compelled to offer my resignation from the PDP effective immediately."

The Imo PDP Chairman, while acknowledging Ihedioha's departure, expressed confidence in the party's resilience. He stated, "Everyone has the right in life to make any decision at any time. Since he has decided to move, no problem, but I assure him that as he has resigned, more than 2,000 politicians will come into the party within the shortest possible time."
