The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Victor Oko-Kind, has confirmed Emmanuel Candid Fubara as a new Magistrate following a request from Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

During their session on Monday, the Assembly also revisited important bills, including the establishment of a State Emergency Management Agency and reforms in the transport sector.

This session marks a significant step since the Appeals Court's decision regarding the Assembly's continuity.

Speaker Oko-Kind began proceedings by reading Governor Fubara's request for Fubara's screening, who brings 26 years of legal experience to his new role. Fubara, from Abonnema in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, pledged to leverage his expertise for the state's benefit. His nomination received unanimous approval by voice vote.

In parallel, the Assembly under Martin Amaewhule issued a 7-day ultimatum to Governor Fubara for resubmission of the 2024 budget, initially presented amidst controversy.

Earlier, the budget passed through a session where Edison Ehie, the Governor's Chief of Staff, acted as Speaker, with supportive legislators subsequently signing off on its estimates.
