The Ondo State Government has instructed traditional rulers without Chieftaincy Declarations to register with the state government by the end of September.

The Chieftaincy Declaration outlines the legal guidelines for the enthronement of traditional rulers in each community.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa issued this directive during a meeting on Friday with the Ondo State Council of Obas. Represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, Aiyedatiwa explained that the registration is a strategy to ensure a smooth transition and to prevent disputes and conflicts associated with the Obaship selection process. He emphasized the importance of this measure and called on the chieftaincy committees in each local government area to ensure all traditional stools without a declaration have one prepared and registered by the end of September.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of traditional rulers, noting that five percent of the local government allocation has been approved for their benefit.

Additionally, the state government has issued a warning to minor chiefs against wearing traditional crowns. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, stated that any 'Olu' or 'Baale' who wears a crown will face government penalties. He urged Obas to report any minor chiefs in their domains who violate this directive.
