An Elder Statesman and Ijaw Leader, PA Edwin Clark has disclosed how the former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi approached him with concerns about a report allegedly sent to the late President Umaru Yar'Adua, accusing him of being a cultist.

He stated how Amaechi fervently denied these allegations, asserting that he was a baptized and confirmed Catholic. He stated how Amaechi sought his support and requested him to become his godfather, which led to frequent visits to the government house in Port Harcourt. He however stated that the political dynamics changed when Amaechi had conflicts with then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife.

He said in an interview with Punch, ''Amaechi came to tell me that he learnt they sent a paper to late President (Umaru) Yar'Adua that he was a cultist. He said he was not a cultist and that he was a baptised and confirm Catholic. He wanted me to be his godfather. So I used to go to the government house in Port Harcourt. But when he had problems with (the then Vice President Good luck) Jonathan and his wife, it affected my relationship with him.''
