KOGI COMMISSIONER, ABUBAKAR GEGU, ACCUSED OF LEADING GUNMEN TO ATTACK INNOCENT RESIDENTS DURING SALLAH HOLIDAY

In a shocking turn of events, the people of Koton-Karfe community in Kogi State have accused the State Commissioner for Solid Minerals Resources, Engineer Abubakar Bashiru Gegu, of orchestrating a violent attack on innocent residents during the recent Sallah holiday.

According to an account obtained by SaharaReporters, the community claims that on June 17, 2024, the commissioner led a group of gunmen to the palace of the Ohimege Igu of Koton Karfi, where he threatened the eight ruling houses and warned them to "follow the Ohimege" or face severe consequences.

The community alleges that later that night, gunshots were heard, and on the following day, the commissioner's "chief thug" and the SA on Security to the Local Government, led a team of thugs to the family residence of the former chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Isah Abdulkarim, and shot his junior brother, Faruq Abdulkarim, at close range.

The violence escalated on June 18, when the commissioner and his armed thugs allegedly opened fire on a peaceful protest, leaving about 15 people with various degrees of bullet injuries. The community claims that the Nigeria Army team from Lokoja provided cover for the commissioner's criminal activities.

The community has called on Governor Ahmed Ododo to intervene, demanding that the commissioner be cautioned and warned to stay clear of the traditional issues of Koton Karfi, as he "does not belong here." They have also asked the governor to investigate the commissioner's claims of being instructed to supply weapons to the thugs and to ensure that the government maintains neutrality in the crisis.
