Nigeria needs to restructure and modify its constitution, according to Dr. Paul Ananaba (SAN). He maintained that everyone is aware of the inefficiencies in the existing system and that it is not functioning.

Punch reported that Dr. Ananaba thinks that in order to solve the problems with federating units, the constitution has to be changed, especially in sections 9 and 3.

He pointed out the absurdity of having multiple governors and commissioners of education in each region when a single governor and permanent secretary could suffice.

This, he believes, would significantly reduce unnecessary expenditure. Dr. Ananaba's comments highlight the need for a more streamlined and efficient system of governance in Nigeria.

Government funding for vital industries like infrastructure, healthcare, and education may be increased by lowering the number of governors and commissioners of education. The advice offered by Dr. Ananaba is sensible and deserves careful thought.

In his words, “Why should each region of the geopolitical zone—the South-East, for instance, have five governors and five Commissioners of Education when there are Permanent Secretaries there? Why should the South-West have six governors when one governor is okay?“
