President Bola Tinubu has charged the Nigerian army not to allow violent groups to overrun the the country.

The President made the call during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Nigerian Army Day celebration held at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State yesterday.

He lauded the Nigerian Army for their sacrifices, informing them that his administration had made and will continue to make sacrifices to keep the citizens safe.

The President who was represented by the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, said, “As your Commander-In-Chief, my administration is committed to building a well-equipped, and truly professional army that will remain the pride of the nation. We are committed to providing you with all that you need to enable you to fulfil your constitutional responsibilities.

Wike Presents Vehicles To Security Agencies

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has presented 50 operational vehicles fitted with communication gadgets to security agencies to strengthen the fight against insecurity in the territory, saying any leader who cannot secure the lives and property of citizens has no business in governance.

The minister, while handing over the vehicles to the agencies, said the measure was to support security agencies with the needed logistics to enable them combat crime without complaint.

The FCT Police Command got 24 vehicles, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), eight, Advance Party/Security Monitoring and FCT Administration got six while the Department of State Services (DSS) got five.

Edo 2024: Anxiety, confusion in PDP over court ruling on Ighodalo

There was anxiety and confusion in the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday when news filtered in that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had held that the primary election of the March 25 of the PDP was done with irregularities, some of which were against the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the party.

The news rattled the camp of the PDP candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo, and the party’s campaign organization office while, expectedly, the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) explored the situation when it issued a statement calling on Ighodalo to now join them in their campaign to rescue the state but the State Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, quickly came to rescue as he issued a statement telling a fast demoralizing membership that the court had not removed their candidate.

In fact, Sunday Vanguard gathered that the campaign team of Ighodalo was thrown into confusion and had to wait for further assurances and direction before they continued their programmes.

Bandits have abducted two journalists and their family members in Kaduna State.

The armed men stormed Danhonu community in Millennium city of Chikun local government area of Kaduna and raided houses of the reporters of The Nation newspaper, Alhaji AbdulGafar Alabelewe, and that of Blueprint Newspaper, AbdulRaheem Aodu, their wives and children.

Alhaji Alabelewe is also the current chairman of the correspondents chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council.

A family member of one of the victims Taofeeq Olayemi, who confirmed the incident, said the bandits stormed the community at about 10:30pm on Saturday and started shooting sporadically before carrying out their action.
