One of the victims of the brutal gunmen attack along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway shared a chilling account of the ordeal. He said that the gunmen were heavily armed with AK-47 rifles, firing shots indiscriminately. In the chaos, they callously killed a person who was inside a Lexus car. The gunmen then forcibly marched them including himself, into the nearby bush. In a desperate bid to save his life, he noticed that they were communicating in Hausa, so he began speaking Hausa to them, pleading for mercy and begging them not to kill him.
According to what the victim said in the report by Vanguard News, "The incident happened around five in the evening. They were armed to the teeth with AK-47 rifles, shooting sporadically. They even killed one person who was inside a Lexus car. They marched about seven of us into the bush, and when I saw that they were speaking Hausa, I started speaking Hausa to them, begging them not to kill me, so they asked if I was a northerner, but I said no, but I have once lived in Kebbi and Sokoto."
