Protest looms over hunger, Agbakoba warns FG

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olisa Agbakoba, has warned that what he described as hunger riot might soon break out in Nigeria, calling on the Federal Government to act fast.

Agbakoba disclosed this on Tuesday, while addressing newsmen in his office in Ikoyi, Lagos.

According to him, the majority of Nigerians could not put food on their tables due to extreme poverty.

This, he said, occurred despite the nation’s enormous oil and gas resources which, according to him, have been hijacked by foreigners.

Petrol hits ₦937 per litre in Jigawa — NBS

In May 2024, the average retail price for Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) in Jigawa State, skyrocketed to about ₦937.50 per litre according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report, ‘Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) Price Watch (May 2024)’.

This surge follows the removal of petrol subsidies by President Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023.

The report highlights that the national average price paid for petrol in May 2024 was ₦769.62, reflecting a dramatic 223.21 per cent rise compared to ₦238.11 in May 2023.

Additionally, this represents a 9.75 per cent increase from the April 2024 average price of ₦701.24.

Biden warns Supreme Court presidential immunity ruling is ‘dangerous precedent’

U.S. President Joe Biden, said on Monday, the Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity set a “dangerous precedent” that could turn presidents into kings and called on the American people to “dissent” by rejecting Donald Trump in November’s election.

In clear, measured remarks from the White House, Biden said the court decision meant Trump was highly unlikely to go on trial before the Nov. 5 election for his role in seeking to overturn the results of the 2020 election, and warned it could turn U.S. presidents into kings.

The court found Trump cannot be prosecuted for any actions that were within his constitutional powers as president but can be for private acts, in a landmark ruling recognising for the first time any form of presidential immunity from prosecution.

Kano Emirship tussle: Court adjourns hearing to July 4

A Kano State High Court, on Tuesday, adjourned the hearing of an application of the ongoing Kano Emirship tussle case until Thursday, July 4.

The Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Speaker Kano State House of Assembly, and Kano State House of Assembly, through their counsel, Ibrahim Isah-Wangida, filed a motion ex parte on May 27.

The applicants are seeking an order restraining the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado-Bayero, and four other dethroned Emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye from parading themselves as traditional rulers.

The respondents are Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, Alhaji Nasiru Ado-Bayero, Bichi Emir; Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar ll, Emir of Karaye; Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad-Inuwa, Emir of Rano; and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim-Gaya, Emir of Gaya.
