Dele Farotimi Reacts After Man Mentioned Fashola And Ambode As 2 Rulers Who Truly Served The People

In a recent exchange on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), prominent lawyer and human rights activist Dele Farotimi sparked a debate about political leadership in Nigeria, particularly focusing on the legacy of two former Lagos State governors.

The controversy began when Farotimi posed a challenge to his followers, asking them to name "one Nigerian ruler who has truly served the people." This provocative question, aimed at critiquing the quality of leadership in the country, elicited various responses from his audience.

One user responded by suggesting two names: Babatunde Raji Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode, both former governors of Lagos State. The user stated, "I'm inclined to mention Fashola and Ambode," implying that these two leaders stood out for their service to the people.

However, Farotimi's reaction to this suggestion was swift and pointed. In a scathing reply, he wrote, "I shall pretend not to see what you have written." This opening remark set the tone for his criticism of both former governors.

Addressing Fashola's tenure, Farotimi sarcastically referred to him as "Inspector Fashola of the Lekki Tollgate." This reference likely alludes to controversies surrounding the Lekki Tollgate, potentially including the October 2020 #EndSARS protests incident, though Farotimi did not elaborate further.
