On Sunday, along the proximity of the Delabo stretch of the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode-Benin highway, a group of armed individuals reportedly abducted a quartet consisting of three Indian citizens and one Nigerian. The Ogun State Police Command disclosed their successful rescue operation on Wednesday.

During a media briefing at the police headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state's Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alamutu, reported the neutralization of two alleged abductors. Alamutu revealed the execution of a covert mission by the police to track down the assailants, who were concealed within a forested area.

Upon detecting the presence of the officers through their flashlights, the suspects engaged in a firefight with the police force. Despite this resistance, the police's anti-kidnapping unit managed to overpower two of the suspects, resulting in their fatalities, while the remaining suspects escaped with injuries, abandoning their firearms in the process.

The Commissioner confirmed the safe recovery of the abductees – three Indians alongside a Nigerian – all of whom have been reunited with their families without sustaining harm.

He detailed the seizure of an assortment of items, including two mobile phones, five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines for the same model, and a total of 109 rounds of 7.62mm caliber ammunition.

Alamutu further announced the deployment of a quick-response team to bolster security on the Sagamu-Benin expressway, reassuring the public of the police's dedication to safeguarding lives and properties.

He urged community members to remain vigilant and report any individuals who exhibit signs of gunshot injuries, as such observations may be crucial to law enforcement efforts.
