The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas on Monday, urged the Economic Community of West African States’ parliament to find solutions to the scourge of terrorism, banditry, piracy, human trafficking, human rights abuses, the impact of climate change and bad governance in the sub-region.

The Speaker made the call while delivering his goodwill message at the formal opening of the 2024 First Ordinary Session of the sixth legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja.

Represented by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Kalu, who was earlier formally inaugurated as a member of the parliament, Abbas harped on the need for commitment on the part of the member States of the sub-regional body, adding that the resolution of the body would only take effect when member states demonstrate eagerness to drive change.

25 Dead In Kano Crash

Twenty-five passengers have been confirmed dead with several others injured in a road accident in Kano, Kano State on Monday.

The Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander in the state, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the accident in a statement on Monday.

Abdullahi said the accident occurred at Dangwaro International Market on the outskirts of Kano city.

The passengers, who were said to be travelling from Maiduguri to the southern part of the country, were reportedly loaded in a trailer alongside cows when the incident happened.

Miyetti Allah dissolves South East officials, appoints Gidado Anambra interim head

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, has dissolved its elected executive committee members in all five states in the southeast region of the country.

According to MACBAN’s National Deputy Director-General and the Sarkin Fulani Awka, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, the dissolution followed the expiration of the tenures of all the state executive committees in Nigeria.

In a meeting it held in Enugu, during the weekend, Siddiki disclosed that the tenure of all state executives councils in Nigeria had elapsed on 27th February 2024, prompting the national executive led by President Baba Othman Ngelzarma to dissolve the state executives across the country.

“Today’s meeting is convened to inform our members of this decision and introduce the newly appointed caretaker committees to the public,” Siddiki said.

Akume, Suswan, others blame Nigeria’s woes on lack of intentional leadership

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume and Sen. Gabriel Suswan have blamed Nigeria’s problem on lack of intentional leadership.

They shared this view with other eminent Nigerians at the official launch of three books: Beyond Ethnic Grievance; The English Language and its Disconnects; and Leadership: Leading Africa out of Chaos written by Prof. Iyorwuese Hagher’ at the weekend in Abuja.

Unveiling the book, the book Chief launcher, Sen. George Akume, enumerated patience, competence, humanness, ability to take strategic decisions as qualities of a good leader that are missing in present leadership of Africa that requires urgent attention to be addressed.
