"Nnamdi Kanu release" Obasanjo Clarifies Meeting with South-East Governors

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has clarified that his recent meeting with South-East governors did not include discussions about the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The meeting, which took place in Enugu and also featured Chief Emeka Anyaoku, was primarily focused on regional development issues. These included matters related to security, infrastructure development, and economic cooperation within the South-East region.

Obasanjo's statement comes in response to widespread speculation and reports suggesting that the South-East Governors Forum intended to seek President Bola Tinubu's intervention for Kanu's release. The former president emphasized that the agenda was strictly limited to discussions on how to improve the region's development prospects.

The meeting was seen as a strategic move to address persistent challenges facing the South-East, including insecurity and economic underdevelopment. Obasanjo highlighted the importance of unity and cooperation among the governors to drive progress in these areas.

Nnamdi Kanu, who has been detained by the Nigerian government, remains a contentious figure, with his arrest and continued detention sparking significant debate and protests, particularly in the South-East.
