According to DAILY POST, the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the presidency to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to set a definitive timeline for local government council elections within the next three to six months.

The party emphasized the need for sole administrators to oversee council affairs during this transition period to ensure a smooth shift towards full autonomy.

The Abia PDP's call follows a recent Supreme Court judgment that granted full financial autonomy to local government areas across Nigeria.

This landmark decision was praised by the Abia PDP as a vital step towards improving governance at the grassroots level.

In a statement issued on Monday, Abraham Amah, the Deputy Chairman and Acting Publicity Secretary of the Abia PDP, highlighted the significance of the Supreme Court's ruling.

The PDP stressed the importance of these reforms to enhance transparency and accountability in local government administration.

The party also called on state governors to respect the Supreme Court's verdict and support council heads in effectively utilizing allocated funds for the benefit of the local populace.

Furthermore, the Abia PDP appealed to all well-meaning Nigerian citizens to champion the cause of local government autonomy, recognizing its potential to significantly improve governance and service delivery at the grassroots level.
