In a recent statement, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has clarified that the issue of releasing Nnamdi Kanu was not part of his discussion with the South-East governors in Enugu State on Tuesday, as reported by Vanguard.

Obasanjo and Chief Emeka Anyaoku met with the governors at their invitation to discuss regional development issues.

According to Obasanjo, the supposed plan to release Kanu by the federal government was not discussed.

A statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, released on Wednesday, outlined the topics of the meeting.

The regional development issues included security and infrastructure.

Economic cooperation and collaboration were also discussed, aiming to complement the national economic development agenda.

Obasanjo stated that the meeting was held at his and Anyaoku’s invitation before the governors’ summit.

"The meeting with them was at my invitation and Chief Emeka Anyaoku before their summit begins. The issue of Nnamdi Kanu was not on the agenda and was not discussed in my presence," he stated.

The former President's comments come as a result of ongoing speculation about the potential release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Kanu has been detained by the federal government, and his case has generated significant public interest and debate.

In the meeting with the governors, Obasanjo and Anyaoku focused on enhancing security and infrastructure in the South-East region.

They also discussed ways to promote economic cooperation and collaboration to boost the national economy.

Obasanjo’s clarification aims to dispel any rumors or misinformation about the meeting’s agenda and outcomes.
