In a video posted by Sahara TV, prominent human rights activist Dele Farotimi has publicly criticized Yahaya Bello, the governor of an undisclosed state. Farotimi highlighted instances where Bello allegedly prioritized paying school fees for unborn children while neglecting the pressing issue of unpaid salaries for state employees.

Farotimi emphasized the fundamental responsibility of employers to ensure timely payment of their employees’ salaries. He questioned the rationale behind allowing salary arrears to accumulate, especially when it comes to public servants who rely on their wages to sustain their livelihoods.

The activist, who has a track record of advocating for workers’ rights, expressed bewilderment over Governor Bello’s actions. “Let’s take Yahaya Bello, for example,” Farotimi stated. “A man pays school fees even for the unborn and is the governor of a state where salaries are unpaid. Salaries should be the most basic duty of any employer. As someone who has employed labor and continues to do so, I boldly declare that I have never withheld payment from any of my employees. Why should anyone owe an employee?”

Governor Bello, who has held office for seven and a half years, faced criticism for allegedly prioritizing education expenses over the financial well-being of state workers. Farotimi pointed out that while Bello paid school fees in advance, state employees remained unpaid, exacerbating their financial hardships.
