According to Sahara Reporters, a popular northern Nigeria Islamic scholar, Dr. Sani Rijiyan Lemu, has expressed concerns over the federal government’s signing of the controversial Samoa partnership agreement and warned about the potential risks and consequences of the action.

The cleric, who spoke during his Friday sermon as captured on a viral video,, accused the President Bola Tinubu administration of plotting to permit LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) practices in the country.

He asserted that the implication of the action for is that he will not get votes from the North in his reelection bid in 2027.

He said:

“Tinubu is gone in the North, he should just start thinking of a way out for his second term, but not Northern votes, North is completely out of his league.”

The cleric stressed that the country would get into a mess if LGBTQ practices are permitted. He blasted the government for allegedly moving towards that direction despite the economic hardship that it has inflicted on the citizens.

He said:

“It is on this present situation of hunger and hardship that Nigeria announced that it has signed LGBTQ+ agreement. We are suffering from many things that our leaders brought to us and they went ahead to sign another agreement that will further push the masses and the country into mess."

Meanwhile, the Nigerian government, through the Minister of Budget and Planning, Atiku Baguda, and his Ministry of Information counterpart, Mohammed Idris, has dismissed reports claiming that the Samoa partnership agreement, which it signed on June 28, would promote LGBTQ rights.
