On July 14, 2024, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Professor Abdullahi Shehu Zuru, in an interview with Punch Newspaper, responded to the Supreme Court's ruling granting financial autonomy to the 774 Local Government Areas.

He stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration would be remembered for addressing the criminal actions of state executives who exploited local governments for personal gain.

Professor Abdullahi Shehu Zuru, former Dean of the Faculty of Law at Nile University, Abuja, described the verdict as "awesome and very unambiguous."

In Abdullahi Shehu Zuru's words, he said, "If we were to go through the normal constitutional amendments and have the states vote on it, I can assure you that the local governments will never be emancipated. This government will go down in history as the government that confronted the criminality of all the state executives who have decided to usurp the local governments and turn them into a milking cow."
