Chief Bode George, a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has revealed that he initially advised against early criticism of President Bola Tinubu.

According to PUNCH, he stated that he once urged people to allow Tinubu a full year in office, from May 2023 to May 2024, to solidify his governance.

However, George now asserts that this grace period has expired, making it imperative for Tinubu to address the nation's pressing issues.

He believed that a year was sufficient time for any significant policy directions and initial impacts of Tinubu's administration to become evident.

George insists that the president must begin to tackle the urgent problems facing Nigeria.

He pointed out that the public's patience has limits, and the expectation is that the president will now present tangible solutions to the challenges that have been plaguing the nation.

Chief George also remarked on the significance of Democracy Day, urging President Tinubu to ensure that the celebration becomes a symbol of genuine democratic progress.

He called for concrete actions that would translate the ideals of democracy into real benefits for the Nigerian people.

According to George, this day should not just be about ceremonial speeches but should mark a period where citizens can start experiencing the positive impacts of democratic governance.

In his critique, George highlighted several key areas where he believes immediate action is needed. These include improving the economy, tackling insecurity, and addressing widespread corruption.

He noted that these issues have been persistent and require urgent attention if Nigeria is to move forward.

George further stressed that leadership comes with accountability and that it is now time for President Tinubu to show the results of his administration's efforts.

He warned that continued inaction or ineffective governance could lead to increased dissatisfaction among the populace, which could have broader implications for national stability.

Bode George said, ''I told people don't start firing Tinubu because he has not used one year. He had never served there before. So, give him that one year, that is, May 2023 to May 2024.

"But it is over; he can't pretend now that he doesn't know the situation on the ground. What are we celebrating? There is hunger in the land, and there is anger in the land."
