According to Punch, The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has revealed that the ongoing negotiations on the new minimum wage are delaying the review of the monthly allowance of corps members. Speaking at the Ogun State NYSC Orientation Camp, Ahmed assured the 2762 Batch B, Stream one corps members that their allowance will increase once the minimum wage negotiations are concluded. He acknowledged that the corps members deserve an increment in their allowance, but the government needs to finalize the minimum wage negotiations first.

The DG also warned corps members against sharing camp activities on social media, citing the expulsion of three corps members from another camp for flouting this rule. He emphasized the importance of adhering to camp rules and regulations, reminding them that their participation in the NYSC program is a privilege. Ahmed congratulated the corps members on making it to the orientation camp, noting that many of their colleagues had not been so lucky academically to have the privilege of being called corps members.

Ahmed encouraged the youths to consider a career in the military, impressed by their military skills display during the parade guard mounted for him. He commended their dedication and hard work, urging them to continue exhibiting the same spirit throughout their service year. The corps members can expect an allowance hike once the minimum wage negotiations are finalized, as the government is committed to recognizing their service and contributions to national development.
