Reps probe N2tn Anchor borrowers scheme

The House of Representatives on Tuesday pledged its readiness to investigate allegations of the misappropriation of over N2 trillion disbursed by the Central Bank of Nigeria through its Anchor Borrowers Scheme to fund agricultural initiatives across the country.

The resolution of the House followed the adoption of a motion on the ‘Alleged mismanagement of government’s agricultural initiatives and funding by Departments, Agencies, and Government programmes outside the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security’, sponsored by Mr Chike Okafor.

Leading the debate on the floor of the House during Tuesday’s plenary session, Okafor who represents Ehime Mbano/Ihitte Uboma/Obowo Federal Constituency, Imo State expressed worry over the growing food scarcity and malnutrition in Nigeria and the alleged mismanagement of agricultural funds meant for the development of the sector.

Immortalise ex-NEC chairman Humphery Nwosu, Reps tell FG

The House of Representatives has called on the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to immortalise former Chairman of the National Electoral Commission, now known as the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Humphery Nwosu, for his conduct of the June 12, 1993 election adjudged as the most credible election held in post-independent Nigeria.

Nwosu oversaw the election of Moshood Abiola, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party.

However, the exercise was annulled by military dictator, Gen Ibrahim Babangida (retd.).

Nigeria must fully embrace digital health if its target of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) must be attained, the Founder of Baba Telehealth, Flory Emakpose, has said.

Emakpose, who noted that current global economic realities have made it crucial for the country to adopt digital health solutions, however, agreed that the Nigerian government is on the right trajectory with its health security programmes, as outlined in the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative and the Health Renewal Compact signed by Federal and State Governments, along with Development Partners.

She said the government’s UHC attainment efforts require robust support from the private sector and development partners to succeed for the benefit of Nigerians.

Former Senate president, Adolphus Wabara, has revealed that he rejected the sum of N250 million to support the tenure elongation agenda (otherwise known as the Third Term) of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He stated this in an interview with a YouTube podcast channel – Untold Stories with Adesuwa monitored by The Nation.

Wabara was president of the Senate from 2003 – 2005.

Obasanjo in 2006 had sought to extend his tenure beyond the constitutionally-allowed two terms of four years each in 2006.
