"Writing Is On The Wall" Economic Expert Warns Ruto On Looming Economic Collapse In Coming Years

opera.com 4 days ago

Economic expert and blogger Ephraim Njega expressed disbelief that some people still consider the country's economic crisis a minor issue. He reminded his followers on Facebook that for the past decade, he has consistently warned about the dire economic trajectory of Kenya.

Njega emphasized that the country's borrowing and taxation capacities have been exhausted. He pointed out that the widespread opposition to the government's taxation measures is a clear indicator of this. High interest rates on government borrowing reflect the declining borrowing capacity and lenders' doubts about the government's solvency, leading to almost predatory lending practices.

He stressed that the economic situation transcends politics and affects everyone, regardless of their political stance. The government's failure to lead by example and its habit of deceiving the public will ultimately lead to disaster. When the government finally needs to be truthful, no one will believe it.

Njega warned that many Kenyans will be caught off guard when the economy collapses, as denial is a common response to serious crises.

"Many Kenyans will be caught by surprise when the economy collapses. They wouldn't understand how the house of cards finally came tumbling down. Denial is a common human response when confronted by a serious crisis. " he stated on fb account.

He urged the government to take the issue seriously, stating that the president seems to prioritize politics over economics, despite the urgency of the situation. He doubted the feasibility of paying nearly KSh 1 trillion in public debt interest while maintaining a functional economy.

He called for a reorganization of the government to engage competent, graft-free professionals. He criticized the current cabinet, filled with individuals he deemed unqualified and corrupt, and questioned the luxury of political patronage during a severe economic crisis.

Njega concluded by stating that genuine change is necessary. While the government may deceive its citizens, it cannot deceive creditors. The seriousness of the situation is evident, and immediate action is needed.

"What will it take for sincere and genuine change to be effected? You can lie to Kenyans but you cannot lie to our creditors. PR and propaganda is a language the creditors wouldn't understand. The writing is already on the wall." he added.
