In a recent development, terrorists has ambushed and killed five soldiers and an airman along the Kaduna-Abuja road, as reported by Vanguard.

Despite this loss, the military remains determined in its mission to combat insecurity.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, stated at a Strategic Inter-agency Policy Committee briefing at the Police Force headquarters.

“Though it is a thing of sadness when security personnel are killed in line of duty, in the military, we take pride in risking our lives for the safety of the country,” he said.

The military faces ongoing challenges, including recent suicide bombings in Gwoza that killed civilians and military personnel.

Major General Buba described these attacks as attempts by terrorists to attract attention and recruit new members.

“We are in a state of war. As it is when you are involved in counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency across the country, in such situations, ugly things happen from time to time,” he explained.

Buba also addressed questions about the establishment of a school of Islamic Affairs by the Nigerian Army.

He clarified that the Army already has a school of Chaplaincy for Christians, stating that military personnel remain religiously inclined and aim to be better informed and educated.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, highlighted recent coordinated attacks by terrorists, including the tragic loss of over 50 residents and policemen in Katsina on June 12, and the killing of at least 25 individuals in a village raid on June 11.

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has made significant progress, eliminating 140 terrorists and arresting 57 others in Borno.

The Nigerian Military reported eliminating 2,245 terrorists and arresting 3,682 others in the past three months.

Additionally, notable operations in various states have led to the recovery of arms, ammunition, and the rescue of kidnapped victims.
