Mr. Enyinnaya Apollos, a senior party member and a former chief press secretary to Abia State's ex-governor Okezie Ikpeazu, has reportedly told the Daily Post that the PDP will bring in a new generation of young leaders to implement much-needed reforms. While preparing for the PDP's next State and National Congress, Apollos hinted at the party's resolve to implement necessary reforms under its leadership.

In preparation for the forthcoming congress, the PDP appointed Abia North as chairman following the State caucus meeting that took place on June 1 in Umuahia. Apollos told reporters in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, that no other party in Abia has the same level of involvement at the grassroots level as the PDP, highlighting the PDP's long history of involvement in grassroots politics. Apollos stated, "We value the experience of our elders but we can't take any nonsense from stakeholders." This emphasised a position against undue influence from particular stakeholders, while yet recognising the wisdom of the party's elder statesmen.

Looking back on the 2023 Abia State Governorship election loss, Apollos said that the party's internal issues, particularly the influence of selfish individuals, were to blame. "The departure of any individual from the gathering does not disturb anybody," he said. For their own benefit, PDP members acted counter to the party's interests. When asked about the people who had left the party, Apollos implied that they had been disillusioned with the leadership because they were acting in their own self-interest. He made the observation that individuals who betrayed the party's goals for their own benefit were left out of the promised rewards.

Additionally, Apollos warned against opportunistic actions within the PDP, drawing attention to worries about those seeming to be party loyalists in order to secure desirable positions for outside interests. He told us, "We are aware of people who are pretending to be in the party waiting to hijack positions and hold it on trust for some persons." After listening to Apollos speak in the lead-up to the PDP's State and National Congress, it's clear that the party is ready to embark on a new era with young, ethical leadership.
