Nigeria doesn’t have people who speak truth to power – Peter Obi

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has said that Nigeria lacks courageous people who can speak truth to power.

Obi made this statement on Saturday, during the 10th anniversary of Alaigbo Development Foundation in Umuahia, Abia State.

He lamented that the country, has an abundance of sycophants who tell leaders what they want to hear.

The former Anambra State governor, who recalled how he judiciously managed public funds while in office, also charged public leaders to use public funds for the people.

Ogun community protests bad road, appeals for help

The people of Idomila community in Ijebu North-East Local Government Area of Ogun State, staged a protest on Saturday, over the deplorable condition of their major road.

Community members from not less than 938 houses, during the protest lamented that the bad road has caused immense hardship and suffering for them.

Bearing placards with various appeals such as “Bike man, Motorist are avoiding this road,” and “Gov. Dapo Abiodun, we appeal to you to fix Idomila road,” the protesters decried the state of the road, which they said claimed a life and left others hospitalised.

The chairman of the Idomila Elders Council, Kunle Sanni, said the road connected the community to the Army Barracks of Ilese and urged the government to intervene.

Kaduna: Bandits release kidnapped journalists

Two Kaduna journalists, Abdulgafar Alabelewe of the Nation Newspaper and AbdulRaheem Aodu of Blueprint Newspaper, kidnapped by bandits a week ago have regained their freedom.

DAILY POST recalls that the journalists, were abducted from their homes in the Danhonu community in Millennium City of Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna on Saturday, July 7, alongside their families.

Although the police authorities have not confirmed their release, a relative of one of the victims said they were released on Saturday afternoon.

One of the journalists, Abdulgafar Alabelewe, was released along with his wife and two children who were kidnapped at the same time.

Fire outbreak reported at Emir Sanusi’s Palace in Kano

The Chief of Staff to the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, Munir Sanusi Bayero, Dan Buram Kano, on Saturday, said a fire outbreak destroyed the Emir’s palace at the Gidan Rumfa where he is occupying.

In a statement on Saturday, he said a fire incident occurred at the outer court of His Highness’s Palace, Kofar Kudu, adding that it happened Friday night, around 11pm.

Fortunately, there were no casualties, and the damage was minimal, It said.

According to the statement, the palace is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the palace and its occupants, adding that they are also investigating the cause of the fire and taking steps to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
