In a significant development, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has set in motion the relocation of Abuja's largest mechanic village, Apo Mechanic Village, to a permanent site in Wasa district. This move comes 25 years after the FCT Administration first proposed the idea.

According to Vanguard, Wike clarified that no deadline has been set for the occupiers to vacate the current site, dismissing rumors of impending demolition. He also cautioned against nepotism in the allocation of shops at the new location.

A 19-member technical committee has been established to oversee the relocation process, which is expected to be completed within three months. The committee will handle enumeration, technical, engineering, allocation, resettlement, and compensation aspects. Chairman Malam Abubakar Makama commended the Coordinator, Chief Felix Obuah, for taking swift action on the long-standing issue. The relocation will benefit thousands of auto technicians, spare parts dealers, and service providers, who will be moved to a modern site with improved facilities.
