According to a report by PUNCH, the Kano State Government has ordered the immediate release of funds to contractors to complete the abandoned five-kilometer road projects across the 44 local government areas.

The decision, announced by Governor Abba Yusuf shortly after a meeting with the contractors at the Government House, is seen as a significant step in reviving the rural development initiatives started by the previous administration under former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.

"We are committed to addressing the infrastructure gaps in our state and ensuring that our rural communities have access to reliable transportation networks," said Governor Yusuf.

"The completion of these road projects will not only improve connectivity but also spur economic growth and social development in these areas."

During his tenure, Kwankwaso had launched the ambitious 5-kilometer rural network road project, aimed at improving the transportation infrastructure in the state's remote communities.

However, the project was later abandoned, much to the disappointment and frustration of the local residents.

Governor Yusuf's directive includes the immediate resolution of pending compensation issues, ensuring that the contractors can return to the sites within one week.

Additionally, the governor has ordered the release of a 30% upfront payment to the contractors, along with a review of the costs to account for the escalation in construction material prices.
