Should Lagos be spending close to N2 billion in just three months transporting the governor

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, a former candidate for governor from the Lagos State Labour Party, has taken to social media to ask Nigerians whether the state should be frittering away nearly 2 billion Naira on a private plane that it uses to transport the governor to various locations in the span of three months.

According to Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, who recently asked this question on his official X account, the Lagos State government allegedly spent over 1 million Naira in April 2022 on a helicopter charter service for the governor's regular travel, and another 512 million Naira in July and August of 2023 for the same helicopters.

Next, the businessman polled online users: "Is it reasonable for Lagos to have spent nearly N2 billion in three months on the governor's private helicopter ride while the majority of his constituents on Lagos Island do not have access to piped-in water?" Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour continued by saying that drones would be preferable to private planes for government project oversight in Lagos State, and that officials wishing to utilise private jets would have to cover the cost themselves.
