Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the former governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos, has discussed ways to address flooding in Lagos.

In a video shared by Channels TV, Gbadebo stated that Lagos is sinking and has been identified as one of the cities at risk of disappearing in the next 60 to 70 years due to rising water levels. He said simply cleaning out gutters is not enough. He called for a well-managed, mechanized, and hydraulic system to deal with water management. He said this system should work alongside a wetland protection policy and involve proper waste management practices.

Gbadebo used the G-Cans flood protection system in Japan as an example. He suggested that Lagos should adopt similar technology to manage water levels both inside and outside the city

In Gbadebo's words: "Lagos is sinking, Lagos has been listed as one of the cities that will disappear in 60 or 70 years in terms of water overflowing, so we cannot just be talking about gutters anymore. We need to have a well-managed mechanized and hydraulic system, managed with the wetland protection system and then it then comes down to the people in terms of waste management system"
