Before leaving office, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello allegedly transferred $720,000 from the state treasury to a bureau de change in order to settle his child's school tuition. This information was released by Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as reported by Punch Newspaper. During a press briefing that took place on Tuesday in Abuja, Olukoyede disclosed this information, which shed light on the ongoing investigations that are being conducted into the matter.

Olukoyede claims that the EFCC took over the case file and was subsequently in contact with Bello to address the matters that were taken into consideration. However, Bello denied the invitation, expressing concerns about the possibility of embarrassment and intimidation brought about by a woman who allegedly encircled the EFCC with more than one hundred people. The former governor made the decision not to cooperate with the inquiry, despite the efforts of the chairman to engage Bello in clarifying the subject.

The revelation adds another element of complication to the inquiry that is now being conducted into the financial activities that Bello engaged in while he was serving as governor.
