The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, on Wednesday, June 3, 2024, reacted to the post by an X user about residents who emptied their refuse inside flood in the Surulere area of the state.

The Commissioner, on his X handle, thanked the person for bringing it to his attention, asking the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to act on the matter.

The state has been experiencing heavy rainfall since Wednesday morning, with flood taking over major roads both on the Mainland and the Island, causing massive traffic bottleneck on those roads while many workers were left stranded.

The X user, whose handle is @adetutuadeoye3, disclosed in her post that two residents at Number 2, Akewukewe Street, beside the Itire-Ikate Local Government Area in Ijesha, Surulere, decided to empty their drum of refuse inside the flood in front of their house.

She added that when she and others cautioned them about the implication of what they were doing, they became aggressive and threatened to exchange blows with them.

In the photograph posted by the X user, the man and the lady were seen with a blue drum, while some refuse, which they apparently dumped, were seen scattered over the flowing flood.

She therefore said people who dump refuse on flowing water need to be cautioned.
