According to a report by Daily Post Nigeria. The Lagos State House of Assembly's Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, stated that the legislative branch is thinking of enacting a law to control beggarly in the state.

This was said by Obasa in an interview with NAN that took place in conjunction with the Ibile Muslim Community Zakat and Sadaqah Foundation's Lagos launch. He asserted that such legislation was necessary.

The foundation was introduced in Lagos during a public event supported by Lotus Bank.

Through the promotion of Zakat, Sadaqah, and Waqf, it seeks to uplift Muslims who are less fortunate and reduce poverty.

According to Obasa, the proposed law would give the state government and charitable organizations like the Sadaqah Foundation and the Ibile Muslim Community Zakat the authority to control the solicitation of donations.

He said the law will also make sure that those in need of donations don't have to beg on the streets.

He said that this law was necessary because of the growing number of beggars in Lagos. In order to prevent panhandlers from parading the streets of Lagos and pleading for charity, we are investigating how to handle such circumstances.
